Allylix, Inc. is a biotechnology company that uses genetically engineered yeast to manufacture fine chemicals by fermentation.  Allylix has the following full time position opening in its Lexington, Kentucky research laboratory:

Fermentation Engineer/Scientist – Lexington, Kentucky 

The Fermentation Engineer/Scientist will have responsibility in the development of fermentation processes for the biosynthesis of sesquiterpenes or other high value products by genetically engineered microorganisms, and will report to the Director of Process Development.  The position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical or biochemical engineering or life sciences and 5-10 ten years of experience in development of fermentation and recovery processes for biological products from microorganisms, including experimental design and implementation at the laboratory and pilot scales.  The position requires an understanding of manufacturing scale processes and economics, and the ability to apply that knowledge to the laboratory scale development of fermentation processes.  Knowledge and understanding of the biology of yeast and other microorganisms and experience with microbial fermentation are also required.  The position will involve technology transfer to and oversight of contract manufacturers.  A rigorous engineering approach to scale up of processes from lab to pilot to commercial scale is essential for success in this position.  Familiarity with downstream processes is also desirable.
Strain Development Research Assistant - Lexington, Kentucky  

Research assistants working under the supervision of senior scientists will implement strategies for development of strains capable of high level, economical production of commercial products. These positions will require a BS or higher in life sciences, preferably with several years of industrial research experience and working knowledge of laboratory methods in microbiology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry.  Experience in areas of DNA purification, PCR, gene cloning and expression, and handling, maintaining, and cultivating microorganisms is required.
