Leading Allylix is a team of executives with the skills it takes to build a successful industrial biotechnology business. From deep experience in life sciences and start-ups to R&D, production and industry, the Allylix team is poised to take the company aggressively forward.
The company management team is comprised of: Carolyn Fritz, President and CEO; Dr. Richard Burlingame, Vice President Research and Development; Peter Mueller, Vice President Sales and Marketing; and Seth Goldblum, Vice President of Business Development.
Carolyn Fritz, President & CEO
Carolyn Fritz became CEO of Allylix in October 2004. Carolyn brings to Allylix extensive experience in building successful biotechnology businesses. From 1999 – 2004, as President of Dow Chemical's Biomaterials and Biopharmaceutical Business Group, Carolyn built two start-up businesses -- the first developed new biomaterials using microbial fermentation and plant oil derivatives and the second developed vaccines and contract manufactured Phase I-III clinical materials for third parties. In addition to building these new businesses, Carolyn served as a member of the Board of Innovase, Dow’s industrial enzyme joint venture with Diversa. From 1993 to 1999, Carolyn was General Manager of Cargill's Specialty Oils Business, a biotechnology business focused upon developing new food and industrial products from plant oils. She managed this business’ growth from a start-up to a profitable business. Carolyn is a current member of BIO’s Industrial and Environmental Section Governing Board and a past member of the Department of Energy and USDA Biomass Advisory Board. She has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an MS from George Washington University, and a BSME from Iowa State University.
Richard Burlingame, Ph.D. Vice President Research and Development
Dr. Burlingame joined Allylix in 2006 as Vice President, Research and Development. Dr. Burlingame has over twenty years of diverse industrial biotechnology experience in areas of gene expression, biocatalysis, metabolic pathway engineering, and strain and process development for the production of microbial products. From the fall of 2001 until joining Allylix, he was Executive Director of Research and Development for Dyadic International, Inc. where he coordinated the activities of a multinational team of academic and industrial R&D groups in areas of commercial enzyme production and fungal genetic technology development. He received a BS in biochemistry from the University of Illinois and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota. He completed postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying molecular genetics.
Peter Mueller, Vice President Sales and Marketing
Mr. Mueller joined Allylix in May 2008. He has nearly thirty years experience in the flavor and fragrance industry. From 2003-2008, he was the US Sales Director for Flavor Systems at Sensient Technologies. From 1990-2003, Mr. Mueller was Global Account Director and Manager Ingredient Network Sales for Dragoco / Symrise. Prior to that, he was at Firmenich in several commercial roles and at Unitech Chemical in R&D and technical service. Mr. Mueller has had global account management responsibility for Procter & Gamble, The Coca-Cola Company, Pepsico, Abbott Laboratories and Danone. In an executive capacity, he has been involved with most multinational consumer products, healthcare and flavor and fragrance manufacturers including Unilever, Nestle and Kraft. Mr. Mueller has a BA in Water Chemistry and Environmental Biology from The University of Kansas and a MS in International Business and Organizational Dynamics from The University of Pennsylvania.
Seth Goldblum, Vice President of Business Development
Mr. Goldblum joined Allylix in 2011 after consulting for the company for many years. As the Vice President of business development, he brings over 20 years of experience in the life sciences industry. This includes 14 years of broad business development and licensing experience at Eli Lilly, Vical, Senomyx, BrainCells, and his own consulting firm, Life Sciences Partnering Strategies, LLC. During the course of his career, he has been responsible for the signature of over 30 licensing deals valued at over $500 million. In addition to his strong licensing experience in the human health field, he has also completed numerous transactions in the consumer products field. Seth earned his MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and his MS in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
