Terpenes, a class of chemicals known to be effective for a wide range of high value applications, have only been available from plants in exceptionally minute quantities. Despite their importance in products such from flavors and fragrances to insect repellents to biocides, these highly active compounds have been under exploited due to their high cost and limited supply.

Until now. Allylix’ proprietary technology platform produces these rare natural chemicals at low cost, enabling -- for the first time -- terpenes’ expansive commercial use. Allylix scientists engineer enzymes to produce a range of highly pure terpenes and through fermentation processes produce them at a fraction of the cost of their naturally occurring counterpart.   The company has successfully scaled up these processes to deliver a sustainable, high quality supply.

With Allylix, terpenes and their derivatives can be used cost effectively across multiple markets including flavors and fragrances, food ingredients, crop protection, urban pesticides, cosmetic chemicals, biocides, pharmaceuticals and fuel additives. 

Allylix’ initial focus is the nearly $20 billion flavor and fragrance market with, its first two commercially available products, nootkatone and valencene and a pipeline of other flavor and fragrance ingredients that will be on the market in the next two years.  Allylix is pursuing the remaining markets through partnering and licensing.
